What Are Hammer Mill Screens?

A hammer mill screen is used to reduce the size of the product in the mill. It has a rotating shaft with hammers (sometimes known as beaters) attached to it. As these hammers strike the material, they break it into smaller pieces until they are small enough to pass through the screen.

The screen is an essential component in the process as it determines the final size of the product.

Custom Hammer Mill Screens

Hammer Mill Screens can be adapted to suit customer products by changing hole size and shape together with the pitch and open area to give maximum effectiveness.

As we have full control of the manufacturing process, together with specialist manufacturing machinery, we can tailor the screens to your exact requirements.

As well as making standard screens, we also produce many custom-fit screens for customers with modified or non-standard machines. We can produce screens in advance of requirement for use on a call-off order basis to avoid downtime or delays caused by unexpected screen breakage, e.g., due to contaminated product.

Types of Hammer Mill Screens

Our screens have been manufactured on-site at our Sheffield factory since 1975.

We have a long history of manufacturing Hammer Mill Screens for a wide range of machines including:

Hammer Mill Screen Manufacturing Grades

Traditionally, hammer mill screens and other industrial screens have been manufactured from mild steel to provide a cost-effective solution in a variety of screening applications.

Where extended wear life is required for use in arduous conditions, we can produce through-hardened screens in various grades of Chrome-Boron steel and wear plate steel grades.

Brinell 400, Brinell 450 and Brinell 500

We can offer screens laser profiled in ‘standard’ hardened wear plate steels in the Brinell 400 range, or ‘high’ grade in the Brinell 450 and 500 hardness ranges.

Brinell 500+

We can offer through hardened chrome-boron steel screens in the Brinell 500+ hardness range for certain applications.
With an enhanced chrome carbide grain structure, this grade offers considerably better wear resistance than other grades of similar hardness. It therefore typically gives a much greater service life than standard wear plate grades – including 500 hardness plates.

Cost Effective

These chrome-boron steel screens are punched and fabricated before hardening and tempering, resulting in our best-performing and most cost-effective product for high wear-rate applications.
This capability has the potential to significantly alter the cost/life ratio of screen products, meaning that hardened screens can become cost-effective in applications where high costs were previously prohibitive.

Durability

We manufacture high-durability standard bar screens for hammer mills such as Christy Turner machines.
Parts for standard screens for the models listed below are held in stock to enable screens from 6-bar to 19-bar variations to be produced to order very quickly for all standard models.
24x12, 24x16, 24 x 24, 30 x 30 and 30 x 40

We can also supply high corrosion-resistant screens in duplex and super-duplex alloys.
